Review of CRHTT West
25th April 2024

I had a mental breakdown in Surrey on March 6th 2024. I was taken to Surrey hospital on the 8th and two psychiatrists thought I had a mental condition. I was then transferred to PPH Snowdrop Ward in my hometown of Reading under Section 2. I was due to be kept for a month. During the first week, I was alone, scared, and panicked. No guidance on daily routines were provided. I never knew what to expect. I was diagnosed with mixed anxiety and depression in 2002. I panicked every day during the first week there. The place was a prison with only select trained nurses who performed well. The rest of the African origin staff were there for more security type purposes. They were rude and times and treated even normal feeling people with rudeness at times. Trained nurses took blood pressures and heart rates in 5 min – which is fine. Other staff performed the same task in 30 min. Blood pressures from these staff members were recorded on tissue paper. The doctors never knew I was under Section 2. They thought I was an informal patient who could come and go when given permissions. My required medication was delayed as a result. I was never allowed to leave under section 2 and never did until the last few days. During the first week, I was given no information on daily routines and potential therapies. I saw the main doctors once a week. No medical treatment was arranged for the first week. I tend to be a clean person and showered and shaved daily. My room was always clean, noticed by all cleaners. Asking for my shaver from my locker took three days from staff after asking for it on day one. Seeing staff in the main office was always a problem. The did their best to avoid speaking to you with excuses. happened all the time. I was abused my another patient who called me a dirty paki and said he hated Muslims. He once sat at my table when I was having lunch and started a confrontation saying he didn’t like my brown skin. I raised my hand to a member of staff and told them I was trying to eat here. At night when sleeping in the middle of the night, staff would open the door window and shine a torch light in your face. I’m a ligt sleeping because of my anxiety and this woke up every night. I wear contact lenses and need eye drops especially at night. These standard eye drops from over the counter dispensaries were taken away from me. My eyes became so dry. I ordered vape and food from Uber Eats. It always arrived on time at PPH but was delivered up to 2-6 hours after being delivered to Snowdrop reception. Food was always ice cold. I lost £42 from ordering vape that was delivered to snowdrop ward but never delivered to my room. I was more disturbed after leaving PPH then when I entered. How do you explain this?

Suggested improvements
Trained staff who can accommodate different people with conditions in different ways. Not everyone is the same and requires the level of attention. Mostly of which was rude. Staff don’t help as they should.
